St. Joseph's College, Long Island Campus

ST. JOSEPH’S COLLEGE, New York, invites nominations and applications for the position of Academic Dean, School of Arts and Sciences, Long Island Campus.  Founded in Brooklyn in 1916, St. Joseph’s is an independent and co-educational College that prepares students for lives of integrity, social responsibility and service - lives that are worthy of the College's motto, Esse non videri - "To be and not to seem." Located in Suffolk County, the 27-acre campus in Patchogue, is adjacent to Great Patchogue Lake and accessible from all parts of Long Island.  This is an ideal setting for studying, socializing and extracurricular activities. The College serves a diverse population of students who live within commuting distance. 

The Dean gives leadership to the academic life of the School of Arts and Sciences on the Long Island campus by assuming responsibility for academic programs, faculty development, and the academic life of students.  Reporting to the Provost, the Dean collaborates with the other Academic Deans and the Dean of Student Life.  

 

Qualifications:  Ph.D. or equivalent Doctoral degree, record of excellent teaching and scholarly activity; a proven track record of administrative experience, strong leadership and interpersonal skills; a collegial stance and collaborative management style; commitment to the liberal arts and career preparation; communication and presentation skills; understanding of the importance of new pedagogies, especially the use of technology in education; appreciation of the importance of encouraging diversity in the college community and across the curriculum; familiarity with methods and issues of assessment; and a commitment to engaging effectively with faculty, students and staff.
