COLUMBIA COLLEGE CHICAGO invites nominations and applications for the position of Vice President for Business Affairs and Chief Financial Officer (VPBA/CFO). With more than 120 academic programs and nearly 12,000 students, Columbia College Chicago is the largest and most diverse private arts, media, and communications college in the nation. The College, located in Chicago, is an urban institution of 23 buildings. The college had $244 million in revenue in fiscal 2010, approximately 82% of that from student tuition and fees. Over 9,800 students shared just under $193 million in financial aid. The full time faculty is 356 strong, with 1,341 part-time faculty members and a staff of 1,115.

The Vice President for Business Affairs and Chief Financial Officer is responsible for providing leadership, direction, and management of the fiscal and information technology functions of the college. S/He has oversight and responsibility for finance, accounting, payroll, budgeting, internal auditing, student financial services, purchasing/administrative services, campus card, bookstore, and information technology. Key responsibilities include active participation in the development of the college’s plans as a strategic partner and leader, leadership for the development, implementation, and evaluation of administrative and academic computing systems, and providing timely and accurate analyses of budgets, financial reports, and financial trends to assist the president, the Board of Trustees, and others in performing their responsibilities and in supporting sound decision-making. The position has oversight for the college’s investment portfolios and fund managers, and staffs the Finance Committee and Investment Committee of the Board of Trustees.

Qualifications include a degree in a relevant field (Master’s preferred) and ten or more years of progressive, directly-related experience, preferably in higher education finance and business affairs. The successful candidate must have demonstrated ability to lead the financial affairs and information technology needs of a large, complex, and changing organization. He or she must demonstrate success in developing and implementing strategic plans and have good evaluative judgment, the ability to make sound decisions and develop effective solutions to business problems in an ambiguous operating environment. Candidates must possess strong technical and analytical skills, and strong communication skills, including listening, writing, speaking and presenting. S/He must also have the desire and ability to work cooperatively and collaboratively across the campus and have an understanding of, and commitment to, private higher education.
