Director, Education Program

Chatham University, Pittsburgh, PA

Chatham University seeks an exceptional leader and builder to join existing and new faculty in its growing Education programs. Chatham is a vibrant co-educational university with three distinctive Colleges and one School. Chatham College for Women is nationally recognized and one of the oldest women's colleges in the United States. The College for Graduate Studies offers master and doctoral degree programs to both women and men and the College for Continuing and Professional Studies offers degree programs through the doctoral level as well as non-degree and certificate programs.  The new School of Sustainability and the Environment will offer its first programs in fall 2012 and will eventually move to a new carbon neutral campus being built at Chatham’s Eden Hall facility. Throughout its history Chatham has been innovative and entrepreneurial in its growth from a small women's college to a dynamic University. Chatham’s urban Shadyside Campus is located minutes from downtown Pittsburgh and is comprised of the original Woodland Road campus and the new Chatham Eastside. Also, in 2008 Chatham University received the 388-acre Eden Hall in Richland Township (PA), which will enable Chatham to expand its academic and environmental programs for the University's nearly 2,200 students. Long known as an outstanding source of well-prepared teachers, the Chatham Education program now seeks to become a national leader to prepare students from around the world to help develop solutions to some of the world’s greatest challenges. More information about the University is available at www.chatham.edu.

Currently, the Education program offers undergraduate degrees in Elementary Education, in Early Childhood Education, and secondary certification in a wide range of disciplines.  In addition, a graduate degree is offered, the Master of Arts in Teaching (MAT).  These are large programs with multiple field experiences at all levels.  Passing rates of students on the PRAXIS exams are consistently high.

The Education program seeks a dynamic, entrepreneurial director who is also a proven leader and motivator.  Interest and/or experience in international education and/or in environmental education are highly desired.  Required qualifications include an earned doctorate and demonstrated excellence in teaching, scholarly activities, and service suitable for appointment at senior rank.  Candidates who have a record of success in obtaining external support, national visibility within the profession, administrative experience, and a record of success in curriculum and program development and in establishing links with public and private school systems are preferred. Duties will include leadership and faculty development, scholarship, budgeting, and some teaching. The Director will also have opportunities to establish collaborations with the Pittsburgh Public Schools and with the Pine-Richland School District, which surrounds Chatham’s new Eden Hall Campus, located approximately thirty-five minutes from the Woodland Road Campus.
