VICE PRESIDENT FOR STUDENT AFFAIRS / DEAN OF STUDENTS

 

The College of Mount Saint Vincent (www.mountsaintvincent.edu) is accepting nominations and applications for the position of Vice President for Student Affairs / Dean of StudentsReporting to the Provost, the successful candidate is responsible for managing the following offices: Residential Life, Athletics (Division Ill, Skyline Conference), Student Activities, Health Services, Counseling, Security, and Campus Ministry.  The College is seeking an experienced and collaborative leader to oversee all aspects of the Student Affairs functions across campus. The Vice President serves as a liaison to students and works closely with other members of the President’s cabinet. The VPSA will play a key role in the implementation of the College’s strategic plan which places a strong emphasis on student learning, leadership and engagement.

 

Position Responsibilities include:

  • Demonstrable commitment to an academically vibrant community and to the Catholic, ecumenical, and inclusive identity of the College.
  • Work closely with others to maintain a campus environment that encourages and supports student learning, engagement, and service.
  • Mastery of and good judgment about the utility of learning outcomes and program assessment.
  • Collaborates and partners with Academic Affairs, Enrollment Management and other divisions to develop initiatives and programs that support the broader mission of the College.
  • Continues success with student retention strategies and initiatives.
  • Participates in the life and activities of the College with tireless enthusiasm.

Required qualifications, skills and accomplishments:

  • Master’s degree (earned doctorate preferred);
  • A minimum of 10 years of progressive responsibility in a student affairs division of a college or university;
  • Demonstrated cultural competency, including successful experience working with diverse groups;
  • A proven track record as a manager, leader and administrator;
  • Demonstrated transformational leadership skills and an ability to effectively manage organizational change, facility development, and the application of technology to divisional outcomes;
  • Exceptional integrity, ability to exercise good judgment, strong organizational, interpersonal, and problem-solving skills, effective written and oral communication skills, and the ability to build and manage teams effectively.
  • Must reside within 3O minutes of the Riverdale campus.

The College of Mount Saint Vincent is an academically excellent, authentically inclusive, Catholic and ecumenical liberal arts college with a total undergraduate enrollment of 1,530, of which 1,475 are full time. Eight hundred thirty-five students live in on-campus residence halls. The College's students are highly talented and of diverse backgrounds. The College of Mount Saint Vincent is located in scenic Riverdale, New York, which is an affluent and upper middle class residential neighborhood in the northwest portion of the Bronx in New York City.  Riverdale covers about three square miles in area. It has one of the highest elevations in New York City, affording it views of the Empire State Building, George Washington Bridge, Hudson River, and the New Jersey Palisades.  It is also noted for the numerous parks and expanses of greenery and original forest that complement its hilly landscape.
