The university, originally founded as a women’s college, has served women and men in graduate and evening programs since the 1970s. University officials announced in May 2012 that Georgian Court will become fully coeducational by Fall 2013. Looking back on over 100 years of academic excellence, Georgian Court University embraces its rich history while growing to meet the unique needs of today’s diverse student population.

The university’s main campus is located at 900 Lakewood Avenue, Lakewood, N.J., on the picturesque former George Jay Gould estate, which is also a National Historic Landmark. Georgian Court also offers classes at One Woodbridge Center in Woodbridge and at the New Jersey Coastal Communiversity in Wall.

Job Description:

Summary: 

The Vice President for Institutional Advancement serves as the Chief Advancement Officer and is responsible to provide leadership and service to advance the financial growth of the university. The Vice President for Institutional Advancement will lead the way in developing short and long-term strategies within the mission of the university, and will provide leadership and oversight in all matters relating to fundraising. Reports to the President.

Responsibilities:

  • Lead the overall fundraising strategy, including annual fundraising activities, planned gifts, alumni relations and capital campaigns as set forth by the university’s strategic plan.
  • Lead and develop a highly effective team of people who make successful and lasting contributions to the university’s mission and strategic plan.
  • Support the President in her advancement activities, managing engagement of prospects for major university priorities, providing research and conferring on strategies.
  • Serve as an active member of the President’s Advisory Team and the University Council, representing the university as a whole in the important deliberations of these two groups as they advise the President.
  • Recommend and supervise implementation of policies and direct fundraising for all non-research related solicitations for financial assistance in the name of Georgian Court University.
  • Represent the College at various functions, at the request of the President.
  • Support the Board of Trustees and University Council to plan and implement GCU’s Major Gift Initiative.
  • Maintain knowledge of current tax laws, investments, and planned giving opportunities, and use this knowledge in prospect cultivation and solicitation.
  • Assist the communications staff in drafting proposals, newsletters, brochures, pamphlets and other materials; assist the events/stewardship staff with publicity arrangements on important gifts, programs, accomplishments or events.
  • Actively engage with and manage a portfolio of prospects, including personal cultivation, solicitation, closing of gifts, and stewardship.
  • Maintain up-to-date working knowledge of the institutional donor database, such as Blackbaud's Raiser's Edge.
  • Travel locally, regionally, and nationally to cultivate and solicit qualified donor prospects.
  • Integrate the core values of respect, integrity, compassion, justice and service in all aspects of interaction.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements:

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor's Degree; Master's preferred.
  • Minimum of 10 years of fundraising, with demonstrated success in the areas of capital campaigns, planned giving, major donor development, and foundation and corporate relations; preferably in higher education.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Ability to understand the needs and interests of leadership and major gift donors.
  • Interest in all aspects of education and a dedication to promoting the university's fundraising priorities through developing excellent relationships.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage a donor database such as Blackbaud’s Raiser’s Edge or similar development software.
  • Demonstrated leadership and the ability to successfully manage multi-functional or diverse areas.
  • Must be able to work collaboratively with various constituencies and departments.
  • Successful experience in making cold calls as well as developing cultivation and solicitation strategies.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and a demonstrated record of completing assignments.
  • Must exercise a high degree of discretion and independent judgment.
  • Must be well organized and able to perform multiple tasks simultaneously.
  • Must be articulate and possess excellent writing and computer skills.
  • Able and willing to travel regionally, nationally, and possibly internationally.
  • Must have a valid driver's license and U.S. passport.
  • Able and willing to work weekends and evenings.
