PROVOST / VICE PRESIDENT ACADEMIC AFFAIRS

 

Saint Peter's University (www.saintpeters.edu) is accepting nominations and applications for the position of Provost/Vice President for Academic Affairs. The Provost/Vice President for Academic Affairs will lead Saint Peter’s in fulfilling its educational mission and in developing strategies to take advantage of changes in its local and regional environment, academic programs, and administrative processes.

 

The University is seeking someone that can provide vision and leadership for all academics, academic support, and student life and development programs, and is responsible for delivering the highest quality educational and student life experience for students and for supporting the professional development of faculty and staff.  He or she will work on a campus dedicated to the concept of magis, or a striving to do “more,” for our students and for our diverse on- and off-campus communities.

 

Position Responsibilities include:

  • Provides leadership in Academic Affairs and Student Life and Development;
    • Academic Affairs consists of the deans, faculty, staff, and students of the College of Arts and Sciences and the schools of Business, Education, Nursing, and Professional and Continuing Studies.
    • Student Life and Development includes, among other units, Residence Life, Student Activities, and Recreational Life. 
    • Other direct reports include the University Library, Athletics, and related services.
  • A member of the President’s Cabinet, s/he serves as the senior advisor to the President on all matters that affect student success;
  • Acts as the CEO in the president’s absence;
  • Responsible for academic planning, policy, curriculum, faculty and staff hiring and professional development, program assessment, and accountability;
  • Makes recommendations to the President on faculty personnel matters, including promotion and tenure;
  • Chairs the University Strategic Planning and Budget Committee;
  • Performs other responsibilities, building and sustaining relationships of mutual trust and confidence among academic and student life units and between them and administrative offices;
  • Promotes collaboration throughout academic and student affairs and communicating the results of it throughout the University and external communities;
  • Works with colleagues across campus to ensure the University’s fiscal health by aligning resource allocations with academic and student life program priorities;
  • Based on inclusive, evidence-based planning and assessment, makes recommendations  to the President and Board of Trustees about the strengthening, consolidation, and elimination of programs and ensuring that sufficient funding is available for all continuing programs; and
  • Provides leadership to support curricular development, appropriate pedagogical innovation, research, community service, effective pre- and post-tenure faculty review processes, and program reviews and student learning outcomes assessment.

Required qualifications, skills and accomplishments:

  • Earned Doctoral degree;
  • A record of successful and increasingly responsible leadership experience as a vice president or dean;
  • Significant experience in teaching and scholarship;
  • Outstanding leadership skills; and
  • An innovative record in curricular development.
