Vice President for Academic Affairs


RIVIER UNIVERSITY (www.rivier.edu) invites nominations and applications for the position of Vice President for Academic Affairs (VPAA). Rivier University is recognized for its academic programs serving the needs of undergraduate and graduate students. Academic programs include a doctorate in education in leadership and learning (Ed.D.) and a doctorate in psychology (Psy.D.) in counseling and school psychology.  The University, which achieved this status on July 1, 2012, prides itself on a classroom setting led by accomplished faculty, a newly revised Core curriculum and an active learning environment. Founded in 1933 by the Sisters of the Presentation of Mary, Rivier University in Nashua, New Hampshire, is a four-year Catholic institution offering liberal arts and professional programs for almost 2,300 students.

 

The University seeks an experienced, energetic, and collaborative leader with an academic vision to support the strategic and campus master plans designed by the President and campus community which places a strong emphasis on student learning, leadership, and global engagement, and advances Rivier’s core mission of “Transforming hearts and minds to serve the world”. The new VPAA will oversee all academic divisions, departments, and programs and the services that support them. Reporting directly to the President, the vice president works closely with all members of the President’s cabinet. The VPAA provides collaborative and entrepreneurial leadership for academic affairs including deans who lead the academic divisions, associate vice presidents who lead academic administrative initiatives, and other direct reports. The VPAA must be able to focus resources toward the achievement of established strategic initiatives especially programs of academic distinction including diverse teaching modalities, as well as create and maintain new and existing academic partnerships.

 

The Vice President for Academic Affairs must have an earned doctorate or other terminal degree in an academic discipline from a regionally accredited institution, significant administrative experience at the level of Dean or above, including experience in the development and administration of curriculum, budget, personnel and academic governance, academic planning, the application of technology in teaching and learning and a commitment to global engagement.  S/He must have impeccable integrity, exemplary oral and written communication skills, and the ability to maintain strong and positive relationships with faculty, students, and administrators. The successful candidate will be able to appreciate and articulate a commitment to the Catholic intellectual, social and spiritual tradition while advancing the mission of Rivier through the founding charism of the Sisters of the Presentation of Mary.
