Vice President for Academic Affairs

 

Fontbonne University is accepting nominations and applications for  Vice President for Academic Affairs.  Reporting directly to the University President, the vice president for academic affairs (VPAA) is the chief academic officer and serves as a member of the President’s cabinet. The VPAA provides leadership for all academic departments and administrative oversight for all academic areas including the library, the office of the registrar, and the office of institutional research and assessment.  

Primary Responsibilities (including, but not limited to):

  • Support the Mission, Vision, Values, Commitments, and Catholic Identity of the university;
  • A strong academic leader with sound judgment, strong communication and decision-making skills, an open, accessible, and collaborative style, with keen diplomatic abilities, who is able to provide creative academic vision and direction as well as proactive ethical leadership;
  • Has a central role in faculty recruitment, promotion, professional development, university-wide curriculum assessment programs, evaluation and educational policy issues; ensures faculty engagement in enrollment management, retention programs and with student affairs on curricular and co-curricular activities; and
  • Reports directly to the President and works collaboratively with key members of the President’s staff.

Required qualifications, skills and accomplishments:

  • An earned doctorate from a regionally accredited institution and significant administrative experience in higher education with positions of increasing responsibility;
  • A demonstrated record of teaching, scholarship and service, equivalent to that expected of a full professor, preferably in a discipline offered at Fontbonne University;
  • Evidence of intellectual leadership in academic planning, creative academic initiatives, and effective data-driven problem solving within a strategic planning process;
  • Evidence of successful leadership experience in academic program development and evaluation;
  • A demonstrated ability to communicate with diverse internal and external constituencies;
  • A commitment to diversity within an open learning environment;
  • Demonstrated support for collegiality and the role of faculty, staff, and students in shared governance;
  • Outstanding skills in personnel management, strategic fiscal planning and budgeting, and assessment of student learning;
  • Demonstrated skill in fostering and promoting the professional growth of faculty and staff;
  • Knowledge and support of online programs, non-traditional programs, international programs,   multicultural initiatives, graduate programs, and accelerated programs for adult learners; and
  • A track record of innovation.
