Vice President of Academic Affairs

Albertus Magnus College (www.albertus.edu) is seeking nominations and applications for the position of Vice President for Academic Affairs (VPAA). Appointed by and reporting to the President, Dr. Julia McNamara, the Vice President serves as a member of the President’s Administrative Council and is responsible for directing the design and delivery of all academic programs and personnel within the College.

Albertus Magnus is a Catholic, four-year, private, liberal arts, coeducational, degree-granting college offering undergraduate and graduate programs. Founded as a women’s college in 1925 by the Dominican Sisters of St. Mary of the Springs, who are now known as the Dominican Sisters of Peace, Albertus Magnus is devoted to providing students with an education that promotes the search for truth in all its dimensions and is practical in its application. The College fosters a commitment to scholarly exploration and to the principles of academic freedom. Albertus Magnus is located on a beautiful, 50-acre, garden-like campus in the distinguished Prospect Hill neighborhood in New Haven, Connecticut, halfway between New York City and Boston.  The College, offering more than 50 undergraduate majors, minors and concentrations, with pre-professional preparation, boasts a student body of almost 550 full-time traditional (day) undergraduates and nearly 1,700 continuing education and graduate students from eight U.S. states and two international countries.

Supporting the mission and values of the College, the new VPAA will supervise the Dean of the evening graduate and undergraduate programs, the department chairpersons and program directors, the registrar, and the director of library and information services. S/He will be given the opportunity to strengthen the academic rigor and quality of undergraduate and graduate programs of the College through systematic commitment to the assessment of programs.

Albertus Magnus seeks an individual with an earned doctorate in a discipline related to the courses of study at the College; a minimum of seven years proven leadership and professional experience in higher education; teaching experience with traditional and non-traditional students; and administrative experience at the dean level or above.  S/He should have a practical and intellectual commitment to Catholic higher education in a small college setting; exceptional communication skills; experience with academic budgeting, strategic planning and institution-wide assessment processes; and a commitment to working effectively with other faculty, staff and administrators in communicating the mission of the College. Albertus Magnus is seeking candidates who will contribute to the diversity and excellence of our college community.
