Provost/Academic Vice President

 

Mount Saint Mary's College in Los angeles invites applications for the position of Provost/Academic Vice President to begin duties July 1, 2013

Founded in 1925 by the Sisters of St. Joseph of Carondelet, Mount St. Mary’s College is a Catholic, liberal arts College offering undergraduate education for women, as well as innovative undergraduate and graduate programs for professional men and women on two historic campuses in Los Angeles, California.  Mount St. Mary’s College provides a superior education enhanced by an emphasis on building leadership skills and fostering a spirit to serve others.

 

Serving with President Dr. Ann McElaney-Johnson, a recognized leader in higher education, the Provost/ Academic Vice President is responsible for ensuring the continued excellence of the College through its nationally recognized academic programs and dedicated faculty and administrative team.  The College seeks a visionary and energetic leader who will contribute to Mount St. Mary’s vision and mission.

 

The Chalon campus, located in the Santa Monica Mountains of West Los Angeles, houses the college’s baccalaureate degree programs; the Doheny campus, near downtown Los Angeles, offers associate degrees, baccalaureate programs for the non-traditional student and graduate degrees.  Our enrollment reflects the ethnically diverse and rich multicultural urban environment of Southern California.

 

As principal deputy to the President, the successful candidate will supervise the Assistant Provost for Assessment and Faculty Development, the Registrar, Deans: Baccalaureate, Associate in Arts, Nursing, Graduate, and Weekend College, and all Academic Department Chairs. S/He will be responsible for the faculty and staff of the College’s academic programs.  The Provost, in collaboration with the other four vice presidents, is responsible for effecting a close integration between academic affairs and all other areas of the College.

 

The successful candidate will

  • An understanding of and strong commitment to the mission of the College.
  • Have an earned doctorate with teaching, research or other academic experience commensurate with an appointment at the senior professorial level
  • Have demonstrated effective leadership as an administrator at the senior academic level for at least five years
  • Demonstrate commitment to the principles of collegiality and collaboration
  • Have experience in the recruitment, development, evaluation, and support of faculty
  • Understand and appreciate innovative curricular structures, effective use of technology, and issues in higher education
  • Have experience in development, management, and allocation of budget and resources
  • Be committed to promoting and maintaining fundraising sources from grants and other non-tuition sources
