PRESIDENT

 

The Board of Directors of the National Catholic Educational Association invites nominations and applications for the position of President.  Rooted in the Gospel of Jesus Christ, the National Catholic Educational Association (NCEA) is a professional membership organization that provides leadership, direction and service to fulfill the evangelizing, catechizing and teaching mission of the Church. NCEA is a voluntary association of educators and institutions whose first constitution was drawn up in 1904.  The Association's structure is based on a departmental arrangement whereby member institutions hold association membership through one of the constitutive departments. The Association, started by seminary, college and parish leaders, now has strong departments for seminary, elementary, diocesan administrator, religious educator and catechist, secondary, and educational board educational ministries. The Catholic colleges and universities are affiliated members.  NCEA is the largest private professional education organization in the world, representing 200,000 Catholic educators serving 7.6 million students in Catholic elementary and secondary schools, in religious education programs, in seminaries and in colleges and universities.

Responsibilities:  

The President of the National Catholic Educational Association is the Association’s Chief Executive Officer and serves at the pleasure of the Board of Directors. As chief administrator, the President:

  • is the Association’s principal public spokesperson, supported by the Communications Office and other staff
  • has the opportunity to significantly and profoundly impact Catholic education
  • works with the Board chair and each of the Board’s committees
  • is responsible to the Board for appropriate implementation of Board policies
  • is the Association’s Treasurer, assisted by the Finance Manager and Controller and the Association’s principal public spokesperson, supported by the Communications Office and other staff
  • serves as the Association’s representative on a number of national and international boards, including the Bishops’ Committee on Education, Council for American Private Education (CAPE)
  • appoints, supervises and evaluates executive directors, the Executive Vice President, the Director of Institutional Advancement, the Director of Public Policy and Educational Research, the Director of Communications and Public Relations, the Director of Marketing, and Executive Assistant to the President.

Qualifications:

 

The ideal candidate is a practicing Roman Catholic with informed knowledge and love for the educational ministries of the church. S/He should have the credentials appropriate for an association’s president: an earned doctorate or terminal degree; a minimum of seven (7) years of experience that includes increasing responsibility in an organization; mid to high-level administrative experience; experience and a background in an educational setting; demonstrated success in a leadership role for complex multi-organizational projects; experience in developing and managing a budget; and a demonstrated entrepreneurial background. S/He will assume responsibility for the ethical stewardship of all financial, physical, and human resources. The President must have impeccable integrity, exemplary oral and written communication skills, a record of proven leadership ability and vision, be in agreement with and support NCEA's mission, and have a deep commitment to the core values of NCEA.  The anticipated start date for the new President is July, 2013.
