Physical Therapy Director/Dean

Trine University seeks qualified candidates to fill the role of Director/Dean for its new Doctor of Physical Therapy (DPT) degree program. The successful candidate will have the vision to share and lead a new School of Physical Therapy and support the University’s greater mission of preparing students to succeed, lead, and serve. 

 

The program will provide instruction for the DPT degree and the University plans to enroll its first class of physical therapy students in the Fall of 2014. The DPT degree program will be located in Fort Wayne, Indiana, less than an hour’s drive from the University’s main campus in Angola, IN.  The metropolitan area of Fort Wayne with about 400,000 people, is a cutural, educational and commerical hub of northeast Indiana.  Growing health care and life sciences sectors anchor the regional economy and offer a diverse range of experimental placements for students.

 

Trine University, an internationally recognized, private, co-educational, residential institution, offers associate, baccalaueate, and master degrees.  Founded in 1884 and accredited by the Higher Learning Committion of the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools, Trine operates a 400-acre main campus in Angola and educational centers throughout northern and central Indiana.  Trine is very proud of its reputation for preparing graduates who immediately contribute to employment positions in both the public and private sectors.  Teaching is the first priority of the institution, and faculty members are expected to contribute to the University’s greater community.

 

Responsibilities:  

The new Director / Dean will:

  • Recruit and hire a leadership team and faculty
  • Lead the CAPTE accreditation process
  • Begin with application for pre-candidate status
  • Design a practice-oriented curriculum
  • Oversee renovation of facilities for the physical therapy program
  • Establish collaborative relationships, including sites for experiential placements, within the healthcare community of Fort Wayne and the region
  • Teach up to 6 hours of doctoral level instruction per semester in the DPT program
  • Prepare the Physical Therapy Program annual budget for submission
  • Lead the recruitment and negotiations of prospective academic faculty
  • Guide the assessment of curricula and the utilization of data to improve instructional quality
  • Assist the development staff with external funding and fundraising
  • Perform other duties as assigned
  • Provide consultation and direction to undergraduate faculty and the Office of Admission on developing strategies to recruit future high achieving candidates to the doctoral program

Qualifications:  

Qualifications for the Director of the Physical Therapy Program include the following:

  • PhD, EdD or DPT
  • Licensed or eligible for licensure as a Physical Therapist
  • Proven leadership abilities
  • Proven record of teaching excellence in physical therapy education
  • Evidence of service to the profession
  • Motivated to create a model physical therapy program  

The Director will oversee the design of the curriculum, the accreditation process, the hiring of faculty and staff, and overall management of the program. The ideal candidate will have experience with CAPTE accreditation and academic program assessment in addition to experience in scholarship, advising, and teaching.  She or he will have the insight, vision, drive, and dedication to shape and lead a new School of Physical Therapy, strong communications, administrative and organizational skills, and a commitment to fundraising.  The position offers a competitive salary and benefits.
