Program Director/Department Chair

Huntington University (Indiana) seeks qualified candidates to fill the role of Program Director and Department Chair for the new Occupational Therapy Graduate Program. The successful candidate will assist in developing a new graduate occupational therapy program in a university that enjoys a fine reputation throughout the region. 

The Position:  

The university is partnering with several other education providers to create a unique educational campus on the site of a leading health care system.  Opportunities for students will include courses, certificates and degrees in allied health from high school level education through graduate degrees.  The creation of the OT program will be a cornerstone piece of the new venture and will provide students and faculty with one-of-a-kind opportunities in study, practice and research.

The occupational therapy program will be housed on the campus of a regional health care system with space designed and organized by the OT program director and faculty. The department staff will structure a learning environment for occupational therapy that leads to successful practice. The program director will provide leadership in developing a first class program which prepares leaders in health care.

Responsibilities:  

Key areas of responsibility include recruiting and hiring faculty; overseeing the development of the OT program philosophy, objectives and goals, curriculum plan, course offerings and other materials needed to receive accreditation through AOTA’s Accreditation Council for Occupational Therapy Education; developing program policies and procedures; leading the ongoing development of the department; initiating relationships with area health care agencies to select clinical learning experiences related to the curriculum; developing and implementing appropriate measures of learning outcomes and professional success of program graduates; and working with University administration to develop the OT facilities. 

 

Qualifications:  

Candidates must have a strong personal Christian commitment within evangelical Protestantism and an understanding of the relationship of faith and professional practice, a commitment to stewardship and a strong desire to serve others. A doctoral degree is required: OTD preferred; doctoral degree in a related area will be considered provided candidate has MSOT and current practice in a clinical field,  licensure or eligibility for licensure in Indiana and evidence of clinical practice and research activities in professional health care organizations. 

 

The candidate must be certified in occupational therapy, with eight years experience in occupational therapy, including at least three years in a full-time academic appointment with teaching responsibilities at the post-baccalaureate level. The candidate must also have a commitment to an occupational therapy practice curriculum based on the mission of the University that exemplifies Christian ethics, compassion and service and must demonstrate successful teaching and curriculum development experience in higher education.
