Dean of Nursing


Mount St. Mary’s College (www.MSMC.la.edu) invites nominations and applications for the position of Dean of Nursing.  Founded in 1925 by the Sisters of St. Joseph of Carondelet, Mount St. Mary’s is a Catholic, liberal arts College offering undergraduate education for women, as well as innovative undergraduate and graduate programs for professional men and women on two historic campuses in Los Angeles, California.  The College provides a superior education enhanced by an emphasis on building leadership skills and fostering a spirit to serve others. The Chalon campus, located in the Santa Monica Mountains of West Los Angeles, houses the college’s traditional B.S.N. program; the Doheny campus, near downtown Los Angeles, offers the A.D.N., the accelerated B.S.N., and M.S.N. programs. Our enrollment reflects the ethnically diverse and rich multicultural urban environment of Southern California.

 

The Dean of Nursing will provide the visionary leadership for the on-going development of the Nursing Department, its programs and resources, and future direction. Reporting to the Provost, the Dean will represent the Nursing Department on the Provost’s Council and work closely with the other Deans of the College. Directors of the Nursing programs will report to the Dean.  In collaboration with the program directors, s/he will prepare and administer the Nursing Department budget, pursue new financial resources in support of the department and school, and guide the recruitment, appointment, retention, promotion and long term success of a diverse and accomplished faculty and staff. The College seeks an energetic leader who will contribute to Mount St. Mary’s vision and mission.  

 

Candidates for the full time, 12-month position must have: an earned doctorate from an accredited college or university which includes course work in nursing, education, or administration; a minimum of five years experience in an academic administrative position; progressive experience in higher education, research, and grant acquisition; current or the ability to obtain a California RN license; national and/or state certification in any of the specialty areas represented in the MSMC graduate educational track offerings.

  • An understanding of the role of information technology in educating the next generation of nurses.
  • An ability to advocate effectively for the Nursing profession, and education, within the college and at the local, state, national and global levels.
