Academic Dean


The University of the Incarnate Word (San Antonio, Texas) seeks qualified candidates to fill the role of Academic Dean of the H-E-B School of Business & Administration. The successful candidate will represent the school to internal and external constituencies and provide the academic and administrative leadership for the school. 

 

The University of the Incarnate Word (www.UIW.edu), founded by the Congregation of the Sisters of Charity of the Incarnate Word, is a Catholic institution that welcomes to its community persons of diverse backgrounds, in the belief that their respectful interaction advances the discovery of truth, mutual understanding, self realization, and the common good. The School offers a Bachelor of Business Administration (BBA) degree with programs in Accounting, Banking and Finance, Economics and Finance, Economics, General Business, International Business, Management Information Systems, Management, Marketing, Sports Management. The School also offers graduate degrees that include: Master of Arts in Administration (MAA), Master of Business Administration (MBA), Master of Science in Accounting (MSA), and a Master of Health Administration (MHA). The dean collaborates with 33 full-time faculty and is supported by an assistant dean and 2 full-time staff members. The school serves approximately 950 students (600 undergraduate and 350 graduate).  

 

Responsibilities:  

The Dean is the chief administrator of the H-E-B School of Business and Administration, reports to the Provost, and is a member of the University Planning Commission. The Dean is responsible for the long-term strategic planning and ethical management of the school's academic, fiscal, physical, and human resources. The Dean promotes excellence in teaching, research, service, and professional development in support of the UIW Mission. The Dean plays a major role in developing relationships with the community, businesses, government, accrediting agencies, and in seeking external support.

 

Qualifications:  

Candidates should have an earned doctorate or other terminal degree in business or a closely related field within the School of Business; a distinguished faculty career (teaching experience and a record of sustained scholarship) that would qualify appointment as a full professor in a department of the School. In addition, a minimum of five years of administration in higher education is preferred. A proven record in building business relationships and experience in consulting and entrepreneurial activity is a plus. The candidate must be able to communicate effectively and collaborate with multiple constituent groups in a mission-driven environment. The successful candidate must be in agreement with and support UIW's Mission.  

 

The successful candidate will be able to demonstrate:

  • The ability to work productively and collaboratively with the academic leadership team and participate in institutional strategic planning, goal setting and resource allocation.
  • A record of success using excellent interpersonal and communication skills in working effectively with, and building consensus among faculty, students, staff, and administrators in a dynamic and expanding diverse campus community environment.
  • A history of overseeing and working collaboratively with department chairs and faculty on curriculum planning and development, effective teaching and assessment of student learning. This includes experience with growth in programs, faculty, facilities and the demands of regional accreditation agencies.
  • A record of leadership in recruitment, retention, and development of high-quality faculty, students, and staff.
  • Experience in evaluating faculty performance and an understanding and commitment to the Boyer Model of Scholarship. The expectation of high-quality scholarship should be understood, valued and promoted by the Dean.
  • Success in working collaboratively with the advancement division to obtain federal, state, and private grants and funds for the School.
  • Experience with promotion of and sensitivity toward a diverse student population and the South Texas community.
