ACADEMIC DEAN

School of Liberal Arts, Education and Social Sciences (SLAESS)

 

Reporting to the Vice President of Academic Affairs, the Dean of SLAESS will be a professional educator and a visionary leader who is committed to, and demonstrates a passion for, the mission and strategic vision of Regis College and the values and heritage of the Sisters of Saint Joseph of Boston.  Responsible for all academic and strategic leadership of the School, the Dean will be a source of innovative and creative ideas and inspiration. He/she will direct program and faculty growth that continuously improves the institution's local and national prominence in the liberal arts and professional programs. The successful candidate will have excellent interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to work in a respectful and collegial manner with the College's many communities: the campus, the city, the region, the nation and international partners.

Regis College, founded in 1927, is a diverse and welcoming community guided by the values of the founders, the Sisters of St. Joseph of Boston. Located on a lovely 132-acre campus in Weston, Massachusetts, Regis is a Catholic, liberal arts and sciences co-educational college that empowers women and men to challenge themselves academically, to serve and to lead. Accredited by the New England Association of Schools and Colleges (NEASC), Regis College boasts an enrollment of over 1,300 (full-time, part-time, undergraduate and graduate) students, and offers seventeen majors, thirty minors, honors program, teacher licensure, and a combined bachelor’s/master’s option. While the students pursue diverse majors, they all share a common curriculum that develops skills in academic inquiry, communication and reasoning.

 

Responsibilities Include:

  • Direct supervision of all SLAESS undergraduate and graduate academic and co-curricular programs and faculty.
  • Direct supervision of, and collaboration and coordination with, all SLAESS academic administrators, specifically: Department Chairs/Program Directors/Program Advisors/Program Coordinators.
  • Official appointment of all SLAESS academic administrators on a rotating schedule.
  • Annual assessment of all SLAESS faculty performance effectiveness and mentorship providing systematic faculty development; direct management of all annual faculty performance evaluations, faculty appointment and non-reappointment; all faculty contract management.
  • Budget management, planning and development; ongoing evidence-based demonstration of the equitable and efficient use of all School resources in all activities.
  • Ongoing assessment and institutional effectiveness for continuous improvement of student learning within SLAESS; working-knowledge of, and active participation with, ongoing accreditation and re-accreditation activities.
  • Close collaboration and ongoing coordination with the Academic Dean of the School of Nursing, Sciences and Health Professions (SNSHP) as well as all members of the Administrative Council and Academic Affairs.
  • Committee service to multiple standing committees of faculty governance, to Board of Trustees Committees and to all relevant Ad Hoc Committees or Taskforces as necessary.
  • Coordination and strategic leadership for all aspects of curriculum design, implementation and assessment regarding:
  • Key strategic initiatives throughout all curricula demonstrating: interdisciplinary education; global education; technology and innovation; and experiential learning
  • New course and program development and ongoing assessment for continuous improvement of existing disciplinary and interdisciplinary curricula
  • Oversight and management of all course scheduling
  • The availability, accessibility, and adequacy of educational resources (e.g., assessment, digital resources, library materials, technology)
  • Active and systematic promotion of the use of technology, distance learning and innovative pedagogies for course delivery in the academic setting, including the campus-wide Regis Technology Innovation Program (rTIP) and iPad initiative
  • Other relevant responsibilities as designated by Vice President of Academic Affairs

Requirements:.

  • An earned doctorate from an accredited U.S. college or university
  • Holds the title and position of an academic Associate Dean or Dean of a School or College of arts and sciences at an accredited U.S. college or university
  • Has a minimum of three to five years academic administrative experience at an accredited U.S. college or university
  • Has a minimum of six years experience as a full-time faculty member with the earned faculty rank of Associate Professor or Professor
  • Demonstrates evidence-based experience of teaching and administration of academic programs using hybrid and online delivery and non-traditional, innovative and creative strategies in liberal arts and professional program development
