Description

                                                                                             (3) FACULTY

Department of Rehabilitation and Movement Science

The University of Vermont (www.uvm.edu) is seeking nominations and applications for three (3) faculty positions within their rehabilitation and movement science department: one tenure-track position at the associate professor level, one tenure-track position at the assistant level and one position that may be either a clinical or tenure-track position at the assistant level.  The positions are 9-month academic positions requiring teaching, student advising, scholarship and service to the University.

The University of Vermont combines faculty-student relationships most commonly found in a small liberal arts college with the resources of a major research institution.  The university is home to 9,970 undergraduates, 1,317 graduate students, 454 medical students and 1,484 full- and part-time faculty.  Located in Burlington, Vermont (perennially voted one of America's most exciting small cities), UVM's setting in a valley on the shores of Lake Champlain, between the Adirondack and the Green mountain ranges, inspires visitors and residents.

The DPT program is part of the Department of Rehabilitation and Movement Science in the College of Nursing and Health Sciences.  The College provides a stimulating academic environment with excellent collaborative relationships with the College of Medicine and Fletcher Allen Health Care, the only academic health center in Vermont.  These partners share a new state-of-the-art simulation center and afford many opportunities for interprofessional collaborations in research and teaching.

Individuals who are seeking tenure-track positions must have a research doctorate and overlapping and/or complementary research/scholarship agendas to current faculty in the department.  Those research areas include neurological and musculoskeletal aspects of movement/posture control or the role of exercise/physical activity in management and prevention of disease and chronic conditions.

Candidates should also demonstrate potential for seeking and obtaining external funding. It is expected that they will contribute to the implementation and ongoing support of a new interprofessional PhD program as well as the recently implemented DPT/PhD dual degree.  The top priority is candidates who can contribute to the teaching needs of the DPT program.  Specific needs include expertise in adult neurological patient management and expertise in cardiovascular/pulmonary patient management.

Individuals who may fit a clinical track should have a clinical doctorate and demonstrate clinical expertise through prior practice and/or teaching and advanced clinical certification.  Preference will be given to those with expertise in adult neurological patient management or cardiovascular/pulmonary patient management. The University of Vermont has identified three "Spires of Excellence" in which it will strategically focus institutional investments and growth over the next several years. These include Neuroscience, Behavior and Health; Complex Systems; and Food Systems (see www.uvm.edu/~nbhspire). Candidates whose research, scholarship, and/or creative work interests align or intersect with these three areas are encouraged to apply.

All candidates will be expected to have a background of collaborative teamwork and must be licensed or eligible for and willing to seek licensure as a physical therapist in the state of Vermont. The University is especially interested in candidates who can contribute to the diversity and excellence of the institution.   Individuals with demonstrated commitment to diversity and inclusion are considered desirable. Applicants are encouraged to include in their cover letter information about how they will further this goal.

The University of Vermont is being assisted by the search firm: Hyatt•Fennell.  Nominations and application materials should be submitted via email to UVM@hyatt-fennell.com.  Applications will include a focused letter of interest, a current résumé, and complete contact information for five professional references.  The position will remain open until filled and review of applications will begin on December 16, 2013.  All applications and nominations will be considered confidential.
